We know that families are busy during their own things during the summer – Little League baseball, summer camp, soccer practice, music lessons, golf games, and on and on. And, we know that these things cost money. So, we wanted to give you some ideas to come together as a family to enjoy the lazy, hazy days of summer – most at no cost!

Caribbean Days Festival – North Vancouver – July 28-29

July 28 – 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Multicultural Parade – Starting at Lonsdale & 12th and ending at Waterfront Park

July 28-29 – 10:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.: Festival in the Park with a main stage, a DJ booth, international food fair and crafts and clothing market

July 29 – 7:30 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.: Shipbuilder’s Square, North Vancouver – Waterfront Caribbean Party with two live bands and two DJs (buy your tickets ($30.00 each) online at http://www.ttcsbc.org/store/event-tickets.

Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival (this one might not be appropriate for youngsters, though)

Sunday, August 5 – Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival – West End, Vancouver

Parade starts 12:00 Noon at Robson & Bute, then down Denman to Sunset Beach around 3:30 p.m. The Pride Festival begins at 2:00 on Sunset Beach.

Night Markets

Offering cheap, discount goods, the real reason to visit the night markets is the food stalls. You’ll find a variety of Chinese/Japanese/Korean/Asian favourites—like freshly-grilled squid, pork sui mai, and Osaka balls–as well as fairground fare like sno-cones, twirled potatoes, and sweet waffles.

• In Richmond until September 16 (Fridays & Saturdays 7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.; Sunday & Holidays 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. and
• In Chinatown until September 9 (Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays 6:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.)
• At the River Rock Casino Richmond until October 8 (Fridays and Saturdays from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 Midnight and on Sundays and holidays from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) with a $1.00 admission fee.
