Pewter Box - Woman & Bear (Made in Canada)

This intricately carved box features a native panel design on the sides and woman and bear on the lid. Bear, powerful and human-like, is referred to as ‘Elder Kinsmen’ and treated as a high ranking guest when killed. Legend shared by many nations tells of a chief’s daughter being abducted by a bear. She subsequently marries Bear and gives birth to twin cubs. This exquisite box ix made of fine lead free pewter.
