The Black Yin Water Snake
Many people think that the Chinese horoscope is based on a twelve-year cycle, each defined by an animal. That’s only part of the story, though.
Each of these astrological signs is also defined by an element – Metal, Water, Wood, Fire or Earth – so the Chinese zodiac is actually based on a sixty-year cycle (5 types of each animal). These elements affect each zodiac sign in different ways, and are almost as important as what sign you were born under.
These elements are, in turn, affected by Yin (masculine) and Yang (feminine). The Yin subdues characteristics of a sign; the Yang makes them more pronounced.
Visit Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_astrology ) to learn more about Chinese astrology. There are several variations on the story of how the Chinese zodiac came to be.
