February Newsletter: The Art of Compromise

Why Letting Go of “Superman Leadership” Builds Stronger Relationships at Work and at Home

Being the ninth child in a family of ten, you learn compromise early. It’s woven into daily life—sharing space, time, attention, and understanding that many decisions are made with the greater good in mind. I had the privilege of witnessing this every day in my family and learning how to navigate it.

February feels like the perfect month to explore compromise. With Valentine’s Day and Family Day inviting us to reflect on connection, this month asks an important question:

Does compromise quietly drain our relationships—or strengthen them in meaningful ways?

The Superman Trap

There’s a quiet pull toward becoming the person who handles everything—at work, at home, and everywhere in between. It can feel responsible and necessary… but it often erodes the very relationships we’re trying to protect.

True leadership isn’t about carrying it all.

It’s about creating space for others to lead alongside you.

Sometimes, leadership begins when we remove the cape.

This Month’s Reflection

• Where might you be operating in Superman mode?

• Where could sharing the load improve trust and collaboration?

• What relationship—at work or at home—might benefit from compromise done differently?

This Month’s Challenge

Choose one area where you normally handle everything alone.

Invite someone in.

Share a decision.

Ask for input.

Notice what changes—not just in the outcome, but in the relationship.

That’s where healthy leadership truly lives.

Happy Family Day and Gōngxǐ fācái (Wishing you wealth and prosperity) as we welcome the Year of the Horse on Feb 17th. The Horse embodies enthusiasm, speed and fieriness, bringing a year focused on bold moves and exploration.

All my best,
