New Year: Reset habits, Refresh priorities

Happy New Year!

January is the month we reset habits, refresh priorities, and look for simple ways to work—and connect—better.

How to Ask Questions That Get Real Answers
The Skill That Changes Everything – at work, in leadership and in life

One question I always ask my clients is: “What is the purpose of the gift?”

That single question changes everything.

Suddenly there’s clarity—the right gift, going to the right person, at the right time, with the right message. No guessing. No back-and-forth. No wasted effort.

That’s the power of asking good questions. They cut through complexity and get straight to what matters.

And it’s not just about gifting.

The questions we ask shape our conversations, our leadership, and the quality of the answers we receive. But here’s what we don’t talk about enough: even great questions can fail if they’re asked at the wrong time, in the wrong way, or without reading the room.

January Reminder

As we move through January, it’s also worth remembering that Family Day in BC is just around the corner on February 16th.

It’s a gentle reminder that connection doesn’t only live at work — it’s nurtured at home, around the table, and in the quiet moments we don’t schedule. Taking time to pause, ask better questions, and be present with the people who matter most is part of what fuels us as leaders, colleagues, and humans.

Welcoming the Lunar New Year and year of the Horse on Feb 17th.

Later this month, many will also be celebrating Lunar New Year, a time rooted in reflection, intention, and renewal.

The Lunar New Year invites us to look forward with purpose — to release what no longer serves us and make space for growth, good fortune, and meaningful connections. It’s a beautiful parallel to January’s theme of asking better questions and starting the year with clarity and care.

“The Horse embodies enthusiasm, speed and fieriness, bringing a year focused on bold moves and exploration”.

Whether it’s at work, at home, or within our communities, January reminds us that thoughtful questions — asked with intention — help us begin the year grounded and connected.
