March 2019 Newsletter

The turning of the seasons is always an exciting time in our household! We look forward to budding flowers, sunny days and local produce. To make the most of the joys of the spring, we like to get all our ducklings in a row in early March! Here are my five tips for spring planning:

5 Ways to Get Ready for Spring

1. Plan to Go Outside

As the days get longer and the air feels warmer, you may feel inspired to peel off the woolen blankets and venture in to the sunny yonder for the first time since Halloween. It’s the perfect opportunity to get those creaky bones moving in the outdoors. Here in BC we are very lucky to have gorgeous national parks, trails and beaches right in our backyard. Don’t let beautiful spring weather pass you by this year! Plan your outings in advance and prioritize adventures that you’ve been putting off for years. If you’ve been meaning to go stand up paddle boarding – don’t leave it up to fate - book the rentals today! Get organized and go outside.

2. Get Your Wardrobe Ready

It’s spring. Of course you want to feel fresh and comfortable as you mosey through the cherry blossoms this season! Dig out your old t-shirts and cropped pants, give them a fresh wash and put them at the front of your closet. Shove those giant sweaters to the back of the drawer. Make sure you have all your spring staples in your closet so that you can grab a light jacket to enjoy your spring strolls in weather appropriate apparel. It will enhance your experience of the season to feel unencumbered by bulky outerwear!

3. Visit the Farmer's Markets

A wonderful way to embrace the bounty of spring is to literally taste the wide variety the seasonal produce available close to home. All across the province, beautiful local fruits and vegetables are being harvested. In British Columbia, apples, kale, leek, arugula, mushrooms, onions and so much more is grown by farmers and producers in the region. Plan some new and exciting spring recipes that will make use of this bounty and have the whole family excited for fresh, light and energizing meals. Make sure you head to your local farmers market and support BC farmers – you’ll be able to taste the difference and feel connected to the food you enjoy.

4. Declutter

It’s time for spring cleaning! This age old tradition received a significant boost this year with Marie Kondo’s efforts to get the entire world to tidy up. Steam-lining and cleaning your home will make your home life more pleasant - even just committing to making your bed every morning will help re-establish your space as a sanctuary. Get rid of old clothing, books and items you’re not using anymore (make sure to donate and recycle when possible) and build a harmonious home that will serve as a spring board for the season.

5. Celebrate!

March is the month of several important holidays – including many that aren’t widely known or celebrated. Employee Appreciation Day is March 1st, Saint Patrick’s Day is March 17th and International Women’s Day is March 8th. If you are planning to acknowledge someone in your life (or perhaps your entire staff team) on any of these days, make sure you give your gift some thought! What are their favourite items? What would make a difference in their day? We at Green & Green are always happy to help craft a memorable and considerate gift that will delight the recipient.
