Rain Jackets - West Coast | WetCoast
Although Vancouver has been tagged as Raincouver, it’s not often that we get pouring rain. Instead, we always find ourselves immerse in drizzling rain that doesn’t exactly call for umbrella but does require rainproof gears. And given the accuracy of our weather forecast, it’s quite a hassle to carry around an umbrella not knowing if it will rain. This is when a high-quality jacket comes in handy.
When purchasing rain gear, it’s important to note the difference between waterproof and water-resistant. Different manufacturers have different standards, but it’s in the constructions that differentiate a waterproof jacket from a water-resistant jacket. In most cases, water-resistant jackets repel water with a water repellent finishing, known as DWR (durable water repellent), on the exterior Waterproof jackets on the other hand, will be composed of multiple layers making it waterproof and breathable.
Some or all seams are sealed for waterproof jackets so water can’t seep through. If your crew is out in the rain for a long period, a water-resistant jacket will not keep them dry as water will seep through the seams and fabric. On the other hand, if the jacket is meant for light rain or snow and daily wear a water-resistant jacket will work great!
